Good to see this addition to cyberspace. Good to see compliance with 12 Traditions. I am a BIG believer in Traditions 1,3, & 5. I am located in northern Thailand. Anyone coming to Chiang Mai can attend a meeting every day of the week by coming to Room 133 at McCormick Hospital at 6:30 P.M. Also a closed meeting every Sunday morning at 9:30 with social breakfast following meeting.

HI - FOUND THIS YESTERDAY BUT SKIPPED THE GUIDELINE - THEN REALIZED THAT IT WAS CLOSE. I'M NEW AT THIS - TREATMENT IN JUNE - MADE 73 DAYS - USE THE EXCUSE OF AGGRAVATION ON JOB TO DRINK. I SUPPOSE THAT TWO WEEKS IS THE LONGES I'VE MADE IT SINCE AUG. I'M AFRAID TO GO TO AA - BEEN THERE ONCE- PANICED - LEFT TREATMENT TWO WEEKS EARLY - DUE TO SHORTAGE OF COUNSELORS - ONE (RECEPTIONSIST, COUNSELOR, NURSE, ETC...) THE SECOND WEEK THE PLACE BURNED AND WE STAYED AT THE HOLIDAY INN WHILE THEY DECIEDED WHERE WE WOULD GO - WE SHOULD HAVE WENT HOME - I WAS DETERMINED NIOT TO DRINK - BUT I FOUND MY EXCUSE - NOW - LAST DRINK 28TH OF THIS MONTH. NOT REALLY SURE WHAT I WANT OR WANT TO DO -- MY SPOSE TOTALLY HATES IT WHEN I DRINK NOW THAT HE HAS SEEN THE WAY I AM WHEN I DON'T.I'M IN THERAPY.ALMOST A YEAR NOW. ALL I HEAR IS THAT I NEED A NEW WAY TO COPE. EVERYTIME I CALL WHEN I THINK I'LL DRINK -- FRIENDS AREN'T HOME OR CAN'T LEAVE OR TALK DUE TO SPOUSES, SPOUSE IS WORKING, ETC... -- I DIDN'T HAVE TO CHANGE MY "PLAYGROUND OR PLAYMATES" NONE OF MY FRIENDS OR SPOUSE DRINK OR DRUG. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

There is always an excuse to drink. Always. The excuses never end and we have a lifetime of them to fall back o if we choose. But I find it helps to remember that wether I choose to drink or not, the desire to drink will go away. The desire will go away by itself, or it will go away because i drink. It is much better to let those feelings pass and remember the reasons to stay sober are so much greater than the excuses to drink

Hello Everybody, hope you're all well. My first on-line meeting was in 1986 on the old Q-link network for Commodore 64's. They were a lot of fun to come home to after a long night of real meetings.

I also received notification through E-mail today.

Welcome Penelope. The major difference between a drunk and an alcoholic is the current sober moment. That simple absence of alcohol from the thought and chemical processes of the body is ultimately the only thing that matters.

Best wishes.

Hello and welcome to all our new visitors,

It's great to hear from you all.

For Jim and Sandy, as far as we know we are the only AA meeting on the WWW. There are online e-mail meetings and chat meetings, if you go to our AA Links page to the Online Intergroup of Alcholics Anonymous link, you will find a listing of these meetings.

For questions regarding other support groups, try the search engines.

To Penelope, I know in 12 years of trying to stop drinking on my own I could never do it, I got panicked in meetings and left too, and found other reasons I did'nt like AA, but in the end AA Meetings were the only place I found, and still find what I need to keep me away from a drink One Day At A Time. Give the live AA meetings another try. Keep coming back.

People With this day and age we are all in it is sometimes tough to say no to that dose of alcohol. Maybe I was one of the lucky ones that after coliding into the back of a semi trailer and darn neart lost my Head over a Beer. This was 14 years ago, been sober ever since, With willpower and one day at a time all who desires to stay sober, and have good health, enjoy life more, be able to think alot clearer, and be happy, can have sobriety in their pocket to bank on. My Girlfriend has been liveing with me for 15 years, and she has 13 years Sobriety, we work our steps and program together, together we Own our Home now, have two Daughters, and still have the jobs we Enjoy. If anyone wants to talk, or need a friend we are on Powwow Every day. RYDER and SPIKE

Hi! Glad to be here. Had 3 years sobriety. Things have gone very smoothly all the way until now.For some reason or another I wanted to have a drink for my 35 birthday which will be on Thanksgiving this year. I guess I had some crazy notion that I was cured!!! NOT!!!!! Then I started to rationalize that I will always be an alcoholic. Thank my higher power for allowing me to keep on track. Sometimes I think I am being tested to keep myself in check. It's great to be away from being sick and tired of being sick and tired. Thanks for reading this. :-)

Howdy All, I am sober today by the grace of a power greater than myself that I found through the twelve step program outlined in the book,"Alcoholics Anonymous". Thank you to the folks who went to the trouble to put this sight together. I went to a great meeting at Detox in south Seattle last night and like usual there were many people in detox who thought they could just stay sober by going to meetings. I hope this site will carry the message of our basic text and the practical program of action needed for the real alcoholic to stay sober and in a recovered state. My best wishes to all of you.

We have all waited a LONG TIME for this site! My last drink was March 11, 1984, and I got to Nov. 4, 1997 One Day at a Time! And by turning my Life and my Will over to the Power of God as I understand Her! I was told in Rehab that it was essential that I Keep it Simple, so--I believe that it can all be boiled down to one much-used, very tired but true phrase, "It Works if you Work it!" Grateful to be-- a Happily Recovering Alcoholic.

Hey Penelope welcome. I was really scared when I went to meetings, what do they think of me, how can these bums help me? when I was called on I could not string 2 sentences together. In time my fears subsided, I went back to those meetings because I heard some hope that my misery might end. That I could maybe someday be a happy guy, with no more emotional pain, embarassement. If the first meetings for you are difficult, dont worry they get easier, but you need to do 2 things 1 is dont drink. 2 is get to meetins and keep coming back. God Bless.

OLE: We don't have a "chat" meeting here. If you want to find one, just go to the "AA Links" page (see below) and once you're there, click on "OIAA" (Online Intergroup of AA). They have a lot of listings for chat groups.

But come back now and then, OK? We like to see you here!

And to Penelope: Keep trying. I was scared, too, for a long time. But I know that I couldn't have stayed sober without the meetings and the people in them, who were so good to me. Keep trying, and good luck!

Hello everyone. Thanks for being out there! I woke up this morning with a hang-over & spent the morning lying in bed drinking Coke & waiting for it to go away. There happened to be a movie on tv about the founder of AA. After watching it, I thought that there might be something about AA on the internet. I was delighted to find this sight. Although I'm a life long Christian, I never thought to ask for God's help in staying sober. Thanks for planting the idea and beginning the prayers. You are all inspirational. I'm having a sober day today. I don't drink every day, but a small voice inside me tells me that I'm an alcoholic, and today I choose to listen to it. Thanks for helping me move in the right direction!

In our basic text it refers to the fellowship over and over as "WE". We can do together what we could not do alone. We can encourage the newcomer(and oldtimers)to take the 12 steps and clear away what it is that is blocking us from a relationship with our Higher Power and from peace of mind. We can encourage each other, empower each other, and hold each other accountable to the principles outlined in our book. We need to hold firm to our primary purpose of staying sober and helping the next alcholic to stay sober. We have been given a gift and We need to make sure it is available for the still suffering alcoholic. We can do together what we can't do alone. What a lesson for the whole world.

It's certainly good to be sober and great to be alive. Welcome to Catherine - that same film inspired me to go to my first meeting nearly three years ago - and I haven't had a drink since, a day at a time.

Right now I'm at University in Wales (UK) getting myself an education - something I missed out on because I could never stick at anything for very long.

Yesterday was a big day for AA in Wales. Three of us attended the first meeting in Lampeter for eight years. Now I'm busy trying to spread the word so the meeting can grow and flourish - there aren't too many meetings in this part of the world and we need all the support we can get. So if anyone wants to come, we'll be at the Catholic Church in Lampeter, Wales every Friday at 7pm.

Hello everyone, my name is Diane and I'm an alcoholic grateful to God I had one year of sobriety on Sept. 30, 1997. I am also grateful to find these on-line supports, especially today. I don't have much extra time to get to meetings with work, kids, husband, home etc. etc. I have my home group on Fri. that I rarely ever miss. My sponsor is a single person who lives with no one and really tore into me last night about doing more meetings and socializing more with AA people (which I try to do). I tried to tell her I feel off balance when I don't take care of myself, home and children but was told sobriety first. Then she told me I would get drunk or die soon if I kept up this way, even with my on-line meeting once a week to boot. So she dumped me and I need to find a new sponsor. This hurt me very badly and I just needed to vent. I feel I am doing all I can do by on-line AA contact, reading the big book every night and my meetings. Am I wrong? Thanks for listening.

Diane - just remember that without your sobriety, you could loose all of those things that you mentioned. It's great to have a life, but I have to remember why it is that I have one.

Find another sponsor ASAP. Sometimes God works in stange ways. You may wind up making a great new friend.
