Morning. Recovery or discovery ... ? I may not be getting the full understanding or 'gist' of this topic but straight off the top of my head .... is it a choice. ? I should think that recovery is a journey of discovery - of all things buried in life while drinking and of new things to come - aren't they both growth. ? Does one preceed the other. ? Don't they go hand in hand. ?

So many questions for this little alkie this morning :-) and really looking forward to reading on this one.

Have a good day ((All)).

((Tracy D)) I've been wondering about you. ?? I hope you are not where i am thinking you might be. If you are then i will see you soon enough but if your not .... fancy disappearing on me like this ... naughty.:-)
Hope you are ok - miss ya. !

Hi everyone I am a drunk named Bryan

For me, I consider sobriety a journey of both recovery and discovery. Through the steps I have recovered a sense of who I once was before the disease of Alcoholism had it's way with me. The steps and good orderly direction have also given me the ability to discover how to live life on life's terms from midnight to midnight without getting loaded. I have discovered that I have everything that I need, not what I want, and I can say today that I am ok with that. I have also recovered some semblance of sanity in that, I can see that the reality of the first drink will lead me down a path that will eventually kill me. There is no ease or comfort in alcohol but rather, insanity and misery. The Big Book says we were reborn. For me that is recovery and discovery.
Respectfully,
Bryan

I couldn't have recovered without discovery. I did that by getting a sponsor and doing the 12-steps of AA. I found out why I drank and worked to heal that. Before the steps I had no idea how much our self-esteem and past adds to our disease... I was told I no longer needed to live with that pain.. and she was right. I'm still discovering and recovering and love every single minute of it!

(Everyone) Thanks for helping this alcoholic stay sober for another 24!

((All))Good posts. Got me to use the old "noggin". I am still in recovery, and each day brings a discovery or a different way that I take hold of what is happening at that particular moment. Thanks for being here and helping me to stay sober.

I can't recover without discovery. Discovery to me is learning. In my recovery that is what I am doing. Learning to feel, react, deal, interact ect. Thanks for helping me stay sober ODAAT.

Kind of a strange topic this week. Best I can make of it is by recovering from my old life as a miserable drunk, I'm discovering a new way to live with peace of mind instead of thinking run riot. Perhaps change the topic to "recovery AND discovery"?

Peace everyone

Before I got sober I mostly just discovered more and better ways to screw up. Now,sober,Im discovering everyday how to live what many would call a "normal" life. This should be a good week,I neglected posting last week but dont intend to this one.

I feel recovery always must include some relapse prevention intervention & discovery is what the world really looks like by being sober........it's definately using the Sobriety Prayer every day to maintain ones recovery & continued discovery in life!

Hello, I am new here and new to being sober. So for me, discovery would be the word for the week, discovery that I am completely screwing up my life by continuing to drink and discovery that I cannot drink, at all, ever, period, because I'm addicted to alcohol and can't control my drinking, so it's time for us to break up, divorce, go our separate ways. Discovery that I'll lose my job if I continue down this path of drinking, and jobs in my field are extremely hard to come by. Discovery that drinking is preventing me from being the person I want to be. And here's looking forward to recovery and being sober and being alive. With lots of help, divine and human.
